National assistance dog charity welcomes four new Trustee appointments

Canine Partners, an assistance dog charity dedicated to training amazing assistance dogs to transform the lives of people living with disability, is proud to announce the appointment of four trustees to its Board.

The new trustees are Miriam, Richard, Agnès, and Brendan. Miriam, who has been partnered with canine partner Laurel for five years, has spent over 30 years in the Equality sphere, holding lead roles in many sectors.

Having recently retired from 30 years in the property development sector, Richard is a qualified accountant who brings financial and leadership experience to the board. Angès is a qualified veterinary surgeon and, having completed her MBA, took up various commercial leadership roles in sales and marketing too.

Investment manager, Brendan, helps private clients, charities, trusts and professional partners. In addition to his trustee role, Brendan is fundraising for the charity via various events across Scotland.

Alex Lochrane, CEO of Canine Partners, said: “We are delighted to welcome these four highly talented individuals to our board. Like many charities, we are experiencing an increased demand for our services. Agnès, Richard, Miriam and Brendan’s expertise and commitment will help us to continue to grow and develop so that we can reach more people who can benefit from the support of our amazing assistance dogs.”

“I look forward to working with them to help the charity achieve its goals and make a real difference to the lives of people with disabilities.”

Canine Partners trains amazing assistance dogs to transform the lives of people living with disability, boosting their confidence and independence as well as providing unique companionship.

The dogs are taught a range of tasks that will give essential support to their partner, including picking up and fetching items, opening doors and helping with dressing and undressing. They can even help to load and unload a washing machine and they can fetch help in an emergency.

About Canine Partners

Canine Partners is a registered national assistance dog charity that supports adults with disabilities to enjoy a greater independence and quality of life through the provision of specially trained dogs.

There are more than 14.6 million disabled people in the UK and a significant number of those could benefit from a canine partner. The health and well-being of the dogs throughout their training and working life is a priority. The dogs are carefully matched to their partner’s needs and lifestyle. They are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and shutting doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and getting help in an emergency.

These life-transforming dogs also provide physiological, psychological and social benefits including increased independence and confidence as well as increased motivation and self-esteem. A canine partner also brings companionship, a sense of security and increases social interaction.

Canine Partners receives no government funding and is wholly dependent on public donations and legacies. The charity is part of Assistance Dogs (UK), the umbrella organisation for charities in the UK which have been accredited by Assistance Dogs Europe and Assistance Dogs International to train dogs to help people with various disabilities.
