Canine Partners thanks Royal British Legion for their generous support

The Royal British Legion Langport branch has kindly donated £500 to Canine Partners, an assistance dog charity which transforms the lives of people with physical disabilities.

Canine Partners trains their assistance dogs to perform everyday tasks such as opening doors, undressing, unloading the washing, pressing buttons, and getting help in an emergency, tasks they would otherwise find difficult, painful or impossible. The dogs also increase independence, confidence and provide loving companionship.

Dee Simpson, Canine Partners volunteer fundraiser in Somerset, said: “We would like to thank the Royal British Legion Langport branch for their kind donation.

“The money raised will help us to train more assistance dogs during our 25th anniversary year, meaning more disabled people will have their lives changed.”

The Charity, which receives no government funding and relies solely on donations, was formed in 1990 and has to date partnered more than 580 assistance dogs across the UK.

Canine Partners, which works in partnership with the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes, aims to train dogs to meet the needs of people with even the most complex disabilities including members of HM Armed Forces.

Sir William Young, President of the Royal British Legion Langport Branch, said: “We know that these dogs are of immense benefit, both physically and psychologically, to their companions. We hope that Canine Partners will be able to provide one of their marvellous dogs to help someone who has served in the Armed Forces”.
