Adrenaline-junkie Mike to take part in Tough Mudder for Canine Partners

Amputee Afghanistan veteran Mike Goody is set to crawl in mud and swim through ice in a Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for assistance dog charity Canine Partners.

Mike, 30, who is now swimming full time in the hope of competing for Great Britain in the future with maybe the possibility of the Rio Paralympics in 2016. Mike has signed up to the London West Tough Mudder and will take part in a 20km run jam-packed with army obstacles on Sunday 1 May.

Mike will be completing the challenge with his girlfriend Sara Trott, who is an Advanced Trainer at Canine Partners. They hope to raise at least £600 which will enable the Charity to train more assistance dogs, transforming the lives of people with disabilities.

Canine Partners trains dogs to perform tasks such as opening and closing doors, undressing, pressing buttons, retrieving items, unloading washing machines, taking card and cash from ATMs and other everyday tasks that disabled people find difficult, painful or impossible to do for themselves.

Adventurous Mike, from Bognor Regis, said: “I’m looking forward to running for Canine Partners with my girlfriend Sara in hope of raising as much sponsorship as possible for them.

“I’ve seen first-hand how these dogs are able to improve the lives of the people with whom they are partnered and believe the Charity is an amazing cause.

“As Canine Partners isn’t government funded, the Charity has to raise all money themselves to help and improve people’s lives. Its amazing challenges just like this can help provide them with the ‘bread & butter’ funding they require to achieve this mission.

“I feel privileged and honored to be able to represent Canine Partners at this event and raise as much as humanly possible.”

Canine Partners was formed in 1990 and have partnered more than 600 assistance dogs across the UK to date. These amazing dogs have changed the lives of those they are helping: restoring independence, giving family members peace of mind and even saving lives by responding in emergencies.
