Get crafty and creative for Canine Partners!

‘Create & Celebrate’ will include an art exhibition, a craft sale, and hopefully an opportunity to see our amazing dogs in action, and aims to raise much needed funds for Canine Partners.

Two very talented artists have created exclusive designs for the event – Nicky Barfoot has created four designs of our dogs doing tasks which can be used on mugs, coasters and greetings cards, while Shannon Christine has designed a cross stitch pattern of Garon, a canine partner to Becca, for people to make and donate for sale. You can find the pattern on the Facebook page for the event if you’d like to stitch and donate your version.

Olive started supporting Canine Partners in 2015 when she was looking for a small charity that involved people and dogs where she felt her funds raised would make a difference.  She was living in Haslemere, near to our Southern training centre, at the time, so felt Canine Partners was an obvious choice and created her ‘Textile Art Challenge’ event to raise money.

Olive says: “The Canine Partners family embraced me and the idea and we raised in excess of £2,000.  During this time I met many partnerships and saw the liberating impact the dogs have on their partners. I have continued to support Canine Partners ever since, including a coffee morning in our village in Scotland, where we retired to, which raised over £800.

Olive is now looking for items for the craft sale and exhibition, which she hopes will also be a great opportunity for emerging artists and students to have their work seen in two very busy and prestigious venues.

Would you like to get involved?

Check out Olive’s Facebook page, where you can find out more, including the lovely cross stitch pattern and how to donate other craft items for the sale.

Have you been able to Paws for a Cuppa?

Paws for a Cuppa invites you to host a tea party with friends and family and raise much needed funds for Canine Partners.

Many of our events have had to be cancelled during lockdown, and so Paws for a Cuppa is a way to still get together safely to show your support. Lots of you have already taken part, including Sally and her canine partner Dudley who chose a posh afternoon tea theme and raised an amazing £1,166, Wilma and her canine partner Belle who held two events and raised £600 in total, and Penny (pictured) and her husband Doug who raised nearly £500.

If you’d like to host your own party, you can still take part by clicking the link below. And we’d like to say a big thank you to all of our fundraisers, we hope you enjoyed your cuppas!

Celebrating 30 years of Canine Partners

To mark Canine Partners’ 30th anniversary year in 2020, we asked the Canine Partners community why they love Canine Partners.

BBC Lifeline Appeal – Behind the scenes

The BBC Lifeline production crew spent over eight days filming with us throughout March 2020 for our BBC Lifeline Appeal.

We let them in on every aspect of Canine Partners – from meeting an applicant to filming a litter of puppies. They attended a Partnership Ceremony, met some of our established partnerships, and spent the day with our Advanced Training and Puppy Training Teams.

Take an exclusive look behind the scenes at the making of our BBC Lifeline Appeal below. This is just a snapshot of what they filmed for our appeal!

Canine Partners BBC Lifeline Appeal

Thank you to everyone who watched our BBC Lifeline Appeal on Sunday 29 March 2020 on BBC One.

Did you miss it?

Not to worry! You can watch it again here.

The appeal is presented by Olympian Iwan Thomas MBE and takes you behind the scenes at Canine Partners with exclusive footage, interviews and heart warming stories to showcase our work.  It’s not to be missed!

Meet Jackie, Jamie and Ian

In our BBC Lifeline Appeal, you get an exclusive look into the lives of Jackie, Jamie and Ian. Jackie, who has Multiple Sclerosis, was partnered with canine partner Babs in 2015 and Jamie, who has Cerebral Palsy, was partnered with canine partner Whisper in 2018. Babs and Whisper not only help Jackie and Jamie with every day tasks, but they also provide psychological and social benefits, including increased independence, confidence, social interaction and self-esteem.

Ian, who has Myotonic Dystrophy, is currently on the waiting list for an amazing Canine Partners assistance dog. Ian’s condition is genetic and progressive, meaning his muscle function continues to deteriorate over time. Ian lives alone and would benefit greatly from having a canine partner to help him around the house with daily tasks such as picking up dropped items, opening doors and fetching things for him.

Each canine partner costs £30,000

A significant number of adults with a physical disability would benefit from a canine partner assistance dog. Although we’ve been creating life-transforming partnerships for 30 years, there is still so much more we could do.  The investment from puppyhood to retirement is now calculated to cost £30,000, so we hope that our BBC Lifeline Appeal will raise awareness of Canine Partners to help us to continue to transform lives for the next 30 years.

Together we can open doors and place more canine partners with people living with disabilities in the UK. We can help transform the lives of more people like Jackie, Jamie and Ian, who are featured in the appeal.

Thank you for your support.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2019

We’re excited to announce that we will once again be taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZcGpasd-t0

Canine Partners first took part in the match-funding challenge in 2016, raising over £60,000. Since then we have taken part every year, and in 2018 we raised over £100,000!

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a way for your donation to go even further, with all donations DOUBLED by Champions who have pledged to match all donations until we reach our target. This means your generosity will go even further in our mission to transform the lives of people living with disabilities, by matching them with an amazing assistance dog.

Online supporters will be encouraged to help us raise the initial £45,000 which will then be matched to reach our 2019 target of £90,000. But the clock will be ticking, as the Challenge is for a limited time only.

The Challenge kicks off at 12pm on Tuesday 3 December (Donate during this time by visiting The Big Give [www.givingtuesday.org.uk]) and will close at 12pm on Tuesday 10 December.

During The Big Give Christmas Challenge, we will be encouraging all of our supporters to spread the word so that we can raise as much money as possible to reach our goal.

Stay tuned to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to be updated with the campaign’s progress as we strive to reach and maybe even exceed our target!

Please note: Donations through Facebook fundraising or our website donation page do not count towards The Big Give.
