£4,000 raised at a dog walk with a difference in Kensington Gardens

DOGS and their owners enjoyed a walk with a difference last Sunday, taking part in fun dog show classes along the walk to raise vital funds for Canine Partners.

The Walking Dog Show, the first event of its kind, raised £4,000 for the charity and took place at the prestigious Kensington Gardens, London, on Sunday 19 May as a unique take on a classic dog show.

“Events like our new Walking Dog Show are vital for raising awareness of the charity whilst raising money to transform the lives of people living with physical disabilities across the UK,” says Cat Howourth, Events Fundraiser.

“Over 150 came along to enjoy the event, including England rugby player Chris Robshaw and his wife, classical singer Camilla Kerslake, who took part in the dog show with their dog Rico.”

The six judging stations around the route included Best Ears, which was being judged by Downton Abbey actor, David Robb.

“Chris and David were fantastic handing out the prizes in the winners ring, where they also judged the Best in Show,” says Cat.

“The Best in Show category was won by Cocker Spaniel X Poodle, but it would have been a hard choice as so many lovely dogs took part in the show!”

Canine Partners is a national charity that trains amazing assistance dogs to transform the lives of people with disabilities, boosting their confidence and independence.

The dogs are taught a range of everyday tasks including picking up and fetching items, opening doors and helping to undress a person. They can even help to load and unload a washing machine and they can fetch help in an emergency.
