Board of Trustees update
Posted 2 days ago
Dr Clive Elwood has stepped down as our Chair of Trustees, and Gideon Schulman as Vice Chair. As we begin this next chapter, we’re pleased to share our interim plans and an exciting opportunity to join our Board.

After four years of dedicated service, Dr Clive Elwood has recently stepped down as our Chair of Trustees. We’re incredibly grateful to Clive for the time, expertise, and leadership he’s brought to Canine Partners during a pivotal period of change and growth. His thoughtful guidance has helped shape our charity’s direction and strengthen its foundations for the future. Reflecting on his time as Chair, Clive shared:
“Canine Partners is a great charity, with amazing people and strong leadership driving the organisation forward. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved together over the past three years, and I’m excited to watch the charity grow and celebrate its successes from the sidelines.”
We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Gideon Schulman, who has stepped down as our Vice Chair. Gideon joined us as a Trustee in 2018 and assumed the role of Vice Chair in 2021. We’re deeply grateful for his dedication, support, and all that he’s contributed over the past seven years.
As we begin the process of appointing a new Chair, we’re pleased to share that Richard Brooke and Nick Sydenham, both current Trustees, have stepped into interim leadership roles. We’re deeply thankful to Richard and Nick for their continued commitment and support during this transition.
Richard Brooke (Interim Chair) joined the Board in 2023 and brings a wealth of experience in finance and property development. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Richard has held senior leadership roles across both the private and voluntary sectors. Richard said:
“I’m honoured to step into the role of Interim Chair during this exciting time for Canine Partners. With such a highly skilled and dedicated team, I’m confident we’ll continue to make a real difference for the people we support. I look forward to helping guide the charity through this transition and beyond.”
Nick Sydenham (Interim Vice Chair), a Trustee since 2022, has a background in business continuity and crisis management. Since retiring, Nick has generously volunteered his time across the charity, from supporting fundraising efforts to fostering our dogs.
