Meet Ang and Mambo
Hello! I’m Mambo – a Labrador/Golden Retriever cross with the waggiest tail and a big love for my task work. I live in the East Midlands with my humans and my best friends, Crawford and Fay.
I tried very hard to become a fully jacketed Canine Partner, but I’ve got a few little sensitivities that meant that wasn’t the right path for me. Don’t worry though — I had a career change! Now I’m an Ambassador Dog. That means I get to show off all the amazing things dogs like me can do to help people, and help the charity raise money so more dogs can transform lives. I’m very proud of my job!
My favourite thing in the world? Helping with the washing! I love unloading the machine, handing out pegs, and passing things to hang on the line. I’m also excellent at shutting doors and drawers with a very enthusiastic “push.”
I adore learning new tricks and I’m really good at scent work. I’ve already got my Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze award, and I’m working on my silver and gold. I also go to a super fun class called “train your dog for TV.” It helps me ignore distractions (useful when I’m showing off at events!) and makes my tail wag with excitement. When I’m not busy, I love nothing more than snoozing in a sunny garden spot with Crawford and Fay, who are both happily retired Ambassadors.
Now, a little about my family’s journey. My human started volunteering for Canine Partners back in 2013, when Crawford came to live with us as a puppy. He decided working life wasn’t for him, but he had a brilliant career as an Ambassador Dog. Since then, we’ve welcomed and loved so many pups – some just for one night, others for weeks! Megan is out working with her partner, and Robinson went to “big school” and then to his very own human too. Later, Fay joined us as part of the Breeding Team and had two lovely litters of puppies before retiring as an Ambassador Dog herself.
My human has also done loads of fundraising, crafting, and giving talks about the charity. Even the money from crafts goes to support one of Fay’s pups who is now a sponsor dog. That sponsorship started with my human’s lovely mum, and it continues in her memory.
Volunteering with Canine Partners has changed my human’s life – bringing so much learning, friendship, and pride. And I’m so glad I get to be part of that journey too, spreading awareness, wagging my tail, and showing just how clever and helpful dogs like me can be.
Love and licks,
Mambo 🐾
