Celebrating our volunteers: Meet Sarah

Posted 2 days ago

During Volunteers’ Week, we're shining a spotlight on the incredible individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making a difference. It’s even more special this year as we approach our 35th birthday!

My Journey as a volunteer with Canine Partners

I joined the charity after my neighbours invited me to a lunch at a care home near Heyshott in West Sussex, where the Southern Training Centre was based at the time, in aid of Canine Partners. I had never heard of the charity until then.

Dog Ambassador Team Claire and the wonderful Doyle, who has since passed away, were demonstrating what the amazing dogs can do that day. I was amazed. My husband and I attended the next information day and immediately signed up as weekend fosterers for the older dogs in assistance dog training. This is where a wonderful journey began.

I’ve enjoyed meeting other volunteers and lovely staff, many of whom are now good friends of mine, and hearing first-hand the stories of inspirational partners. And of course, so many truly wonderful dogs!
