With your help we can provide a lifetime of support
Many people don’t realise that Canine Partners’ support doesn’t end when a partnership is created. It lasts a lifetime.
It costs around £10,000 to support a single partnership from placement course through to retirement. Right now, around 250 partnerships across the UK rely on this lifetime of support, with 35 more being created this year.
Donating monthly will help provide a lifetime of support for partnerships like Sam and Hank, ensuring that our life-changing support is there for years to come, for the people who need it most.

Sam's story
I’m not exaggerating when I say that Canine Partners gave me back my life.
I was only 22 when I was diagnosed with a rare form of Dystonia, a neurological condition that causes painful muscle spasms and contractions, making everyday movement difficult. There is no cure or treatment and, as my symptoms worsened, I had to give up my job as a nursery nurse and relied on my mum for round the clock support.
When she died a few years later, everything changed. I found myself completely reliant on carers. Losing my independence was devastating and there was real possibility Iʼd need to move into a care home. Then I discovered Canine Partners.
Without Canine Partners Iʼd have been living in a care home in my 30s
My lifelines, Bugsy and Hank
My first Canine Partner, Bugsy, gave me back my independence and dignity. He showed me how much easier my life could be; and with him by my side, I stopped surviving and started living. After 10 wonderful years together, Bugsy hung up his purple jacket and retired.
Not long after, I was matched with my second dog, a black Labradoodle named Hank. He’s such a fast learner, and Bugsy adores him. We’re celebrating our first year together this month.
Bugsy and Hank have given me a life I didn’t think possible and the ability to do things many people take for granted. The freedom to live in my own home, care for myself, and build a whole new circle of friends, both two and four-legged.
A lifetime of support
An assistance dog isn’t a magic wand. Bugsy and Hank have both been expertly trained to support my needs, but learning to work together takes time. And with a condition like mine, those needs can change.
My Partnership Trainer, Jenna, has been there through the ups and downs. Nothing is too much trouble, and it’s reassuring to know she’s just a phone call away if I need her.
My wheelchair can make it hard for me to train new tasks at home because I can’t manoeuvre easily. Jenna helped me train both Bugsy and Hank to use my lifeline alarm in an emergency, and to pass my purse to the cashier in shops. Small things, but they make a big difference. That’s why the ongoing support from Canine Partners means so much.
Thank you for reading my story and for considering a gift that could help someone regain their independence, just as Canine Partners helped me regain mine.
Love, Sam, Bugsy & Hank

In the first few weeks, trainers like Jenna check in every few days while partnerships learn to work together. They continue to visit and call every few months until retirement, always on hand to provide support, advice, and additional training.
Below, Jennaʼs diary from when Sam and Hank were partnered last year shows the lifetime of support we provide.
